Very poor service. Their verification codes they text to me do not work. All i I want is to have my 2024 tax returns sent to my email or to have them mailed to me. There is no contact phone number.
I used their verification number they sent me by text. I filled that number out on the website and it locked me out.
I used the chatbox and they said someone would call me to walk me thru this and no one called.
I'm dead in the water here. What do I do?

I've never owed the IRS when I've had AARP volunteers do my taxes. I live on a small pension and I always get a small refund. But I tried to do my taxes myself using this website and I now owe $400. I must have done something wrong.
I use the 1040 and have no income to report but my pension,All I need is for someone to review my federal taxes (probably less than 7 minutes)but no one has returned my emails. Then you have to pay to file your state taxes.
They should be upfront with that and the fact that is you want any help you have to pay for it. So it is NOT free.

I had direct deposit set up FreetaxUSA for federal tax return for 2023. I found out FreetaxUSA deposited into a green dot bank account.
I was never given a pay cardto retreive my tax return. IRS told me to ask Green dot to refund the return to them. GREEN Dot says get a tracer number from FreetaxUSA and have them send it to them to return the funds. FREETAX USA has not responded in anyway yo give me the tracer number or straighten out this mess.
I need help. My refund was due around a year and a half ago

Software not accurate re home office expense. Must wait for customer support re all things software cannot do incl glitches.
Home office was not for full yr. Per implied method IRS, theres a scalers monthly formula.
$1500 is max for 300 square ft. I had to enter 12 different smaller sq ft sizes to get proper deduction amount. Re form 1116, passive div foreign credits from prior years: Free tax support says they do it but not schedule B which requires US MAIL filing- not good in DOGE 2025. Software also forced me to calculate manually under estimated tax penalty form 2210 which does NOT apply bc Im in federal diseaster zone despite my personal info was inputted.
Only AFTER questioning Customer Support did I get an answer on how to side step this in software that automatically tells U theres a penalty. Nothing is truly straightforward about this software & it asks a lot of non relevant questions. Its OK if U got 1040EZ that one can do by hand in 5 minutes. Free tax USA wasted so much of my time bc software is for ppl in UTAH.
My taxes were fairly simple. Unless U have LOTS of time to recalculate, read ALL IRS rules yourself, esp if U itemize or have small business, or have brokerage acct, do NOT use this software. I LIKE they dont lobby against ppl for free IRS software like Intuit (TurboTax) & TaxSlayer, but FreeTaxUSA NOT calculate amounts correctly & one must verify every amount entered before filing.
Uploading is not easy either so lots of typing in entire W-2s for accuracy. Also, cannot add statements required/ recommended by IRS like de minimus statement to deduct all business expenses for same tax yr.

As a senior citizen living on a small pension, I was excited to see the FreeTaxUSA website. But, alas, it wasn't free afterall.
If you need any help at all you have to pay for it. and if you want to file your state taxes you have to pay for that also. I also paid a bit more to be able to get some assistance. But so far no one has answered my emails.
I never have to pay the IRS anything. My taxes did not change at all this year but somehow I ended up owing $400.
I must have done something wrong and I just need a little help. But I don't feel i should have to pay so much for any help at all.......especially since they advertise as 'being free.'

I am late getting my 2023 taxes done. They were done and the Marketplace Insurance was not added, and the IRS rejected it after the $17.99 was paid for the state tax.
It was corrected, but when we tried to resubmit it, it asked for another $17.99, which, according to my email, I would not have to repay. However, I can't find where to resubmit it. Could you please help with this problem?
I really need my taxes resubmitted. Thank you, your help would be greatly appreciated.

I filed my federal and state taxes. Both were rejected.
They said it was due to a mismatched social security number and date of birth. I confirmed this with SSA. They confirmed the data I entered was correct.
I emailed this company and I never received a response that addressed my issue. I was never able to file and never received a refund.
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Don't use service. If there is an issue there is no way to get a refund or responsive answer.
Logging and getting questions answered
My review is unsat I have been thrown out which forced me to pay more than expected. Last year went so well and this one is a disaster.
Will you have someone answer my question so I can finish my file.
If not then I will have to spend more money in order to pay my taxes. The easiest way is to answer my question.

When I was finishing up to submit his taxes, it requested that the 19.99 be paid at that moment for the audit defense. We paid, but once we submitted, his return was rejected due to his AGI.
We fixed it and resubmitted, but we kept getting rejected.
So we decided to go to a tax specialist and file elsewhere. We were hoping to get a refund for the audit defense we paid for.

Lost State check in the mail
For some reason, my state return was not electronically delivered to my bank; therefore, it was to be mailed. The post office showed it coming in the mail but was never delivered.
I need a new check! We need to cancel/stop payment on the first check, and in order to send another check, fill out a form 435 to obtain another. This is the information I've been able to come up with so far.

i filed my return with free tax USA and i opted in for my deposit to go to GO2BANKING which their customer service representatives where giving me the run around and being rude so DONT opt in to get your money sent to them. free tax USA had my money sent to an account that i dont have access to.

There are two types of tax filing sites. E-filing and tax preparation.
What you had is the former. You are entering numbers on a digital form to file your taxes. There is no assistance or no checks and balances done. You are not due any help or assistance because you needed tax PREPARATION assistance.
Most come with a fee then e-filing is included.
What you need to do is go back to the AARP people or your US congressman’s office for assistance. It sounds like an easy fix.
